At Digital Education Show Asia 2015, we had a chance to interview Professor Sugata Mitra, to gather a bit more insight into his “School in the Cloud” platform.
The School in the Cloud platform helps students prepare for the future by using Self-Organised Learning Environments (SOLE). The program sparks students’ imagination and creativity by asking Big Questions or connecting them with a global team of volunteer mediators known as Grannies. Learning happens spontaneously in these purposefully chaotic environments.
One of the first questions asked:
Q: “Your School in the Cloud, a global creative online knowledge gathering platform has inspired many. What has inspired you to create one?”
A: I think we need a facility where children can take charge of their own learning. In order to create that we need to know what the design has to be. And in order to create a design we need to experiment with a few alternatives. So the “School in the Cloud” project is doing just that. It is experimenting with different ways of setting up environments where children take charge of their own learning.
